Nocturnal Rites został założony w 1990 roku i na pierwszych taśmach demo grał death metal. Wraz z wydaniem debiutu „In a Time of Blood and Fire” w 1995 roku, zespół zaczął grać power metal. Drugi album – „Tales of Mystery and Imagination” (1998) zdobył jeszcze większą popularność niż poprzednik. Prawdziwa sława nadeszła już w niedalekiej przyszłości...
