Ostatnie lata upłynęły pod znakiem powrotów artystów, którzy swoje najwspanialsze dzieła realizowali nawet kilka dekad temu. Nowe płyty wydane przez Boba Dylana, Donalda Fagena, Dr. Johna, Leonarda Cohena, Kate Bush czy Paula Simona cieszyły się sporą popularnością i zdobyły uznanie nie tylko wśród starszej generacji słuchaczy. Napawa to optymizmem....

Dwa duże powroty wydarzyły się na początku 2013 roku. My Bloody Valentine i David Bowie. Powrót MBV był wydarzeniem bardziej spektakularnym, w końcu milczeli o wiele dłużej, a ich nowy album wzbudzał większą ekscytację również z tego powodu, że nikt tak naprawdę nie umiał przewidzieć jaka to będzie płyta. A Bowie? Ostatni album, na którym zaznaczyły...

Darujmy sobie przymiotniki, które pojawią się chyba przy każdej tegorocznej recenzji tej płyty. Kim jest David Bowie i kim był na przestrzeni tych wszystkich lat, długiej muzycznej kariery, każdy wie, nawet jeśli nie potrafi wymienić tytułu choćby jednej płyty z jego dorobku. Bowie to instytucja, która od dawna finansuje się sama. O zarobkowych intencjach...

No to najważniejszą muzyczną premierę tego rocku raczej już mamy za sobą. No bo najwyżej  jeszcze tylko Stonesi.  Trzeba było emeryta z wieńcówką, żeby powiało świeżością w zastałym powietrzu. Kurcze, facet siedzi cicho od dziesięciu lat, pielęgnując swoje zbolałe (dosłownie) serce, odmawiając jakichś intensywniejszych  i bardziej regularnych kontaktów...

Oczywiście, 8 stycznia 2013 r. wszystkie spekulacje przestały mieć jakiekolwiek znaczenie, bo oto na odnowionej stronie internetowej Bowiego umieszczono nowy singiel, Where Are We Now? promujący najświeższy album – The Next Day. Premierę ustalono na 11 marca, ale zgodnie ze współczesną modą od kilku dni czternaście premierowych utworów Chudego Białego...

Ostatnie lata medialną ciszę wokół tej ikony muzyki co i rusz przerywały plotki, spekulacje i pobożne życzenia… Nowy album - kto by go nie chciał? Jednak David jest artystą, który tworzy i występuje tylko wtedy, kiedy tego chce. Gdy ma coś do powiedzenia, a nie do sprzedania. Dziś wyraźnie ma nam wiele do powiedzenia.
