W 2015 roku Dream Theater świętował jubileusz trzy­dziestolecia. Z tej okazji dwu­krotnie pojawił się w naszym kraju, odgrywając klasyczne kompozycje z całego dorobku. Jak się jednak okazuje, cały zeszły rok pracował także nad nowym, niezwykle ambitnym projektem. Concept albumem The Astonishing. Zamkniętą w dwóch aktach opowieścią, rozpisaną na trzydzieści...

Pod adresem ostatniego albumu Dream Theater wiele już słów padło! „The Astonishing” wywołał powszechną konsternację a w ślad za nią na zespół popłynęła fala błota…. Czy zasłużonego? No cóż, jeżeli ktoś oczekiwał konkretnego, „matematycznego” prog metalu, czyli muzyki, której ramy zespól poniekąd stworzył, to się sromotnie zawiódł! Amerykanie wyraźnie...

Dosyć odważnie, narażając się na złośliwe komentarze, zatytułowali swój najnowszy album nowojorczycy. Zdumiewający, zaskakujący… Przyznacie, że jak na zespół, który od kilku albumów niczym już nie zaskakuje, a zdaniem wielu systematycznie zjada własny ogon (albo już dawno go zjadł!), taki tytuł lekko prowokuje. A czy się broni?

Nie kryję, że zadrżałem z obawy, gdy usłyszałem, że nowy album Dream Theater ma być dwupłytową rock operą zatytułowaną megalomańsko "The Astonishing" (ang. zadziwiający). Owszem, nie jest to pierwszy konceptualny album legend progresywnego metalu. Dużym uznaniem fanów cieszą się przecież takie płyty jak "Metropolis 2: Scenes From Memory", czy "Six Degrees...

Na pewno znacie takie albumy, które są dobrze zrealizowane, zagrane z dbałością o technikę, niby przepełnione emocjami, a jednak w żaden sposób was nie ruszają. Po przesłuchaniu zaś odczuwacie jedynie przesyt. Cóż, wygląda na to, że „The Astonishing” od Dream Theater ma spore szanse dołączyć do tego grona.

Po wątpliwym poprzednim albumie grupa Dream Theater miała szansę na nagranie innej, a przede wszystkim ciekawszej płyty. W przypadku „The Astonishing” najzwyczajniej przesadziła ze wszystkim.
