Powoli Bowie miał coraz bardziej dość wykreowanego przez siebie wizerunku „kosmicznego” Ziggy’ego. Chciał z nim zerwać. I zrobił to swoim słynnym „ostatnim koncertem” w londyńskiej Hammersmith Odeon w lipcu 1973 roku. Chciał też do tego celu wykorzystać płytę z przeróbkami, którą właśnie zamierzał nagrać. Właśnie Pin Ups. I... nie do końca mu się udało....
