Miles Davis i krytycy to jak Marysia z Gdańska i inteligencja: dwa rozbieżne bieguny. Zwłaszcza od końca lat 60. oczekiwania krytyków i to, co Mroczny Mag nagrywał, rozmijało się coraz bardziej. Oni chcieli powrotu do brzmień Drugiego Wielkiego Kwintetu, Miles otaczał się elektrycznymi instrumentami, fascynował się rockiem, Hendrixem, Stockhausenem...
