Nadeszły ponure lata 90. Iron Maiden wkraczali w nie jako zespół o niezwykłych dokonaniach artystycznych i finansowych. Poprzednia ich płyta ukazała się w 1988 roku i zyskała miano jednej z najlepszych w ich ówczesnej dyskografii. Zresztą wszystkie albumy nagrane z Bruce'em Dickinsonem stały się klasykami heavy metalu, a i dwa pierwsze krążki z Paulem...

Choć Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son okazał się rynkowym sukcesem, w Iron Maiden przyszedł czas na zmiany - zarówno personalne, jak i stylistyczne. Ich efektem jest No Prayer For The Dying - longplay dość nierówny i wywołujący mieszane odczucia. Osobiście uważam, że to jeden z tych kontrowersyjnych albumów, które z czasem raczej zyskują niż tracą.

Istnieje książka autorstwa Jacka Higginsa pt. "A Prayer For The Dying", czyli "Modlitwa za konających". Została ona wydana piętnaście lat przed ukazaniem się płyty i moim zdaniem jest najlepszą książką tego pisarza. Nie wiem czy była ona (lub film zrealizowany na jej podstawie) inspiracją przy nagrywaniu płyty Iron Maiden, ale niewątpliwie jest to możliwe....
