Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III, czyli Aloe Blacc, zaczynał karierę w anarchizującej hiphopowej formacji Emanon, by z czasem przeistoczyć się w soulmana z krwi i kości. W jego duszy najwyraźniej gra retro nuta. Bliska jest mu tradycja murzyńskiej muzyki spod znaku Marvina Gaye'a, Sama Cooke'a, Ala Greena i Steviego Wondera.

Po trzyletniej przerwie w wydawaniu solowych płyt oraz głośnym singlu „Wake Me Up„, nagranym razem ze szwedzkim DJ’em Aviccim, Aloe Blacc wydał w listopadzie ubiegłego roku swój najnowszy album „Lift Your Spirit„. Porównując go do poprzednich krążków amerykańskiego wokalisty trzeba przyznać, że roi się w nim od potencjalnych przebojów.

Aloe Blacc zaskoczył wszystkich. Nie chodzi tu wyłącznie o jego współpracę ze szwedzkim DJ-em Avicii’m, ale również o nagłe, niespodziewane wręcz wydanie nowej płyty. Można spekulować czy jest to próba czerpania z popularności hitu „Wake Me Up”. Można, ale nie trzeba, bo Lift Me Up to w gruncie rzeczy przyzwoity krążek, całkowicie inny od tanecznego...
