Gotyk interpretowany popkulturowo jest strzelistą – czasem wyniosłą – introwersją ("These are my words / As I return / Let's go back to the underworld / Let's go back inside"); to również forma hauntologii: nawiedza, straszy, zmory przeszłości uświadamiają nam, jak cienka jest granica między strachem, podziwem, "pójściem przed siebie" a smutkiem.
