Grunge jest najczęściej postrzegany przez pryzmat wielkiej seattle`owskiej czwórki (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains). Ale obok nich działało jeszcze kilka równie interesujących kapel, choćby dowodzona przez Grega Dulli`ego grupa The Afghan Whigs, także związana z legendarną wytwórnią Sup Pop.

Poprzednia płyta The Afghan Whigs, wydana po 16 latach przerwy Do To The Beast, była naprawdę niezła. In Spades to płyta wielka.

Greg Dulli nagrywa coraz krótsze albumy ("Do The Beast" z 2014 trwa ok. 40 minut, najnowszy krążek - 36 minut), co na szczęście nie wpływa na intensywność obcowania z muzyką The Afghan Whigs. Odsłuch "In Spades" zaspokaja głód mocnych gitarowych numerów. Zadziwiający "Birdland" na początek", zaraz po nim porywający "Arabian Heights" - gentlemen, you...

Skoro Mark Lanegan wydał nowy, pokręcony album – to jego dobry przyjaciel Greg Dulli nie może być gorszy. Nowa płyta The Afghan Whigs ukazała się niemalże dokładnie tego samego dnia, co „Gargoyle” Lanegana; przypadek to czy nie, są to płyty – o dziwo –bardzo do siebie podobne.
