Gdy z The Gathering odeszła wokalistka Anneke van Giersbergen, niewielu wierzyło, że zespół nagra jeszcze w przyszłości wybitną płytę. Po premierze ostatniego, najbardziej mainstreamowego w ich karierze albumu "The West Pole", nawet wierni fani mogli zacząć mieć co do tego wątpliwości.
