Chociaż z najlepszego składu Purpury pozostali tylko Lord i Paice, naprawdę warto wznieść ten toast. Zmęczonego zespołem Blackmore’a zastąpił wszechstronny gitarzysta Tommy Bolin, który z racji podobnych upodobań muzycznych bardzo dobrze rozumiał się z Coverdale’m i Hughesem. I właśnie ta trójka ma decydujący wpływ na kształt Come Taste The Band, płyty...

Gdy z grupy odchodzą charyzmatyczny wokalista, basista oraz gitarzysta, który uważany był za lidera, większość formacji albo postanawia zakończyć działalność, albo uzupełnia skład podrzędnymi muzykami i zaczyna chałturzyć, wypuszczając na rynek przeciętne wydawnictwa i depcząc swoją legendę. Wyjątkiem i swoistym fenomenem na tym tle jest Deep Purple.
