Dream Theater prawie po ćwierćwieczu działalności brzmi nudno i płytko. Nie nijako, bo każdy pozna drużynę Jamesa LaBrie, ale może to właśnie, wraz z ekstremalnie kiepską warstwą liryczną "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" sprawiło, że mamy do czynienia z jednym z gorszych albumów Amerykanów.

Black Clouds & Silver Linings, podobnie jak poprzednie wydawnictwa Dream Theater, wypełniony jest po brzegi muzyką. A utworów tylko sześć, więc nietrudno zgadnąć, że są one długie i rozbudowane.

Klawiszowiec Dream Theater Jordan Rudess powiedział kiedyś, że termin "muzyka progresywna" ma w dzisiejszym świecie dwa znaczenia. Pierwsze - dosłowne - odnosi się do muzyki grup poszukujących, z zamiarem wniesienia do gatunku i do świata muzyki ogólnie czegoś nowego, tworzenia materiału wymykającego się jednoznacznej klasyfikacji. Słowem - popychania...

Bez zbędnych wstępów – jest źle. Nie wiem, czy jest dużo gorzej niż na „Systematic Chaos”, ale jest źle. Będę bezlitosny. „Black Clouds & Silver Linings” to płyta nierówna, od tego zacznijmy. Takie kawałki jak "Wither" czy "A Rite Of Passage" to wysłodzone, niemęskie, radiowe balladki gorsze nawet od straszydeł typu "I Walk Beside You", "Forsaken" itp....

Na polski rynek fonograficzny trafił prawdziwy rarytas dla koneserów metalu progresywnego. Z kuźni amerykańskiej formacji Dream Theater wyszedł już dziesiąty studyjny album, refleksyjnie zatytułowany "Black Clouds & Silver Linings".
