Po 20 latach wspólnego grania moglibyśmy się spodziewać spokojnej działalności Pearl Jam do muzycznej emerytury. Nasze niedoczekanie. "Backspacer" to najkrótszy album w historii zespołu. Trwa 36 minut, czyli o 10 mniej niż najbardziej zwięzły w dotychczasowej jego dyskografii "Vs.".

Pamiętacie, kiedy ostatnio nuciliście jakąś piosenkę Pearl Jam? Kiedy zespół nagrał coś, co nie było mniej lub bardziej dziwnym eksperymentem, postpunkowym wydarciem czy posępną balladą? Co naprawdę zostawało w głowie? Cóż, bardzo możliwe, że trzeba się cofnąć do czasów Vs. Potem było różnie, ale najbardziej przygnębiająco w okresie Binaural/Riot Act....

Problem tego świetnego zespołu polega na tym, że rozpoczął swoją karierę od genialnej płyty, która w dodatku przyniosła muzykom ogromną popularność. Pearl Jam sprawiał wrażenia jakby zupełnie nie potrafił odnaleźć się w nowej sytuacji. Granie koncertów w małych halach – jak najbardziej. Rezygnacja z kręcenia klipów – niech i tak będzie. Niestety zespół...

Nareszcie dobra płyta Pearl Jam. Dobra, a momentami nawet bardzo. I to, poza czasem trwania materiału (niecałe 37 minut – pamiętacie dłuuugie koncerty, nie?) największe zaskoczenia. Ale nie jedyne. Kolejną niespodzianką jest procentowa zawartość rock’n’rola na tym krążku. Jest go tyle, co alkoholu w dobrej polskiej wódce.
