Od kiedy pamiętam, zawsze urzekała mnie barwa głosu Jonathana Donahue. Jakkolwiek dziecinnie by to nie brzmiało, mam słabość do tego kruchego, delikatnego wokalu, na wczesnych płytach Mercury Rev w pewien sposób kamuflowanego i rozwiniętego w oryginalną wartość dopiero na Deserter’s Songs. Ta niegroźna ułomność subiektywizmu ma w tym wypadku dość podstawowe...
