Album "1984" uczynił z Van Halen światową megagwiazdę, twórcę nieśmiertelnych przebojów, ze słynnym "Jump" na czele. Ich nagrania stanowiły pomost pomiędzy heavy metalem lat 70., a gładkimi popowymi przebojami o rockowym posmaku, lansowanymi w latach 80.

Kiedy został zaprezentowany singiel "Tattoo", promujący najnowszą płytę zespołu Van Halen, poczułem się lekko zawiedziony. Nie dlatego, że to jakiś wyjątkowo kiepski numer, ale po powrocie do składu Davida Lee Rotha spodziewałem się jednak czegoś innego - wyraźnego nawiązania do czasów poprzedzających moment, w którym opuścił grupę. Na szczęście okazało...

Czas stanął w miejscu - w Van Halen znów śpiewa blondwłosy David Lee Roth, niektóre numery mają po 20 lat, a całość opakowana jest w estetykę ejtisową (te chórki, wstawki klawiszowe, popisy gitarowe).

W końcu stało się! Dwunasty album studyjny Van Halen ujrzał światło dzienne. Wygłodniali, wyposzczeni nowych nagrań fani zespołu, od czternastu lat wyczekujący nowej strawy z logiem swojej ukochanej grupy, wreszcie mogą rozpocząć długo wyczekiwaną ucztę. Tutaj oczywiście istniała pewna nuta niepewności czy aby serwowane danie a là Van Halen nie będzie...
