Na okładce najnowszej płyty U2 umieszczono czarno-białe zdjęcie wykonane przez Antona Corbijna, a którym są trzymający się za ręce: córka The Edge'a i syn Bono. Irlandczycy zawsze przywiązywali dużą wagę do szaty grafi cznej albumów i ich symboliki. "Songs of Experience" w założeniu miał być kontynuacją "Songs Of Innocence".

Po tym jak fala krytyki wylała się na U2 po premierze poprzedniego krążka Irlandczyków "Songs of Innocence" (2014) zespół mógł załagodzić sytuację chyba tylko na dwa sposoby...

Mijający rok to dla mnie rok muzycznych, trochę sentymentalnych powrotów. Do zespołów, których dźwięki ukochałem sobie jeszcze w latach osiemdziesiątych i na których to dźwiękach uczyłem się obcowania z nieco ambitniejszą muzą. W późniejszych latach zdarzało im się nieco artystycznie pogubić i kolejne ich płytowe premiery nie wywoływały już na mojej...

Nie można byłoby wyobrazić sobie piękniejszego prezentu na koniec roku, aniżeli premiery nowego albumu legendarnej już formacji U2! I tak wiem..., wiem że ostatnie płyty bardziej rozczarowywały, aniżeli cieszyły, jak i też trudno dziś doszukiwać się w twórczości tego bandu tych samych emocji, wzruszeń i wielkich idei, jak to miało miejsce przed kilkunastu,...

Ze współczesnym U2 jest trochę jak ze spacerem na Krupówkach. Zdjęcie z misiem (w Davos) chce każdy, ale nikt już tego misia nie pyta o to, co myśli o polityce, świecie, miłości i tak dalej.

„Bono i kumple znów grają od lat wciąż jedną i tę samą piosenkę” – powiedzą krytycy. „Nie jest źle, a w kilku momentach słychać ducha starego, dobrego U2” – odpowiedzą im fani. W zamierzeniu miał to być bliźnia czy album do wydanego w roku nieprzewidzianych wypadków Songs Of Innocence. Seria 2014 - doprowadziła do opóźnienia premiery. A po drodze modyfkacji materiału. Jeśli wierzyć U2, dotyczyło to nie samych kompozycji, lecz tekstów i produkcji dźwięku. Zwłaszcza pod tym drugim względem wyszło to płycie na dobre.
